United Way of Brevard will offer free tax preparation for residents who haven’t filed returns for previous years from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Fellowship Hall of Salvation Army-Melbourne, 1080 S. Hickory St.
The event is being called Better Late Than Never Day.
Returns will be prepared by IRS-certified VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) volunteers. Assistance will be offered on first-come, first-served basis.
Refunds are available to qualifying taxpayers back to the 2012 tax season. Both spouses must be present to file joint tax return.
What you need to bring, if possible:
• Photo identification for you and your spouse.
• Social Security cards for you, your spouse, and/or dependents, along with birth dates
• Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R from all employers.
• Form 1095 Health Insurance Marketplace statements, if applicable.
• Interest and dividend statements from banks (Form 1099).
• Bank routing numbers and account numbers for direct deposit, copy of check.
• Total paid for day-care provider and – provider’s tax identifying number.
• Forms for any special deductions (for example, student loan interest or tuition paid).
• Copies of income transcripts from IRS, if applicable; copy of last completed return.
The transcripts are available by visiting the Melbourne IRS Office, 431 N. Wickham Road, or by calling the IRS at 1-800-908-9946. Allow 10 days for mail delivery.
