For more than five years, Carousel Florist has donated and delivered flowers to participants in 2-1-1 Brevard’s Sunshine Service on their birthdays – free of charge.
And recipients report how much they enjoy them.
“We regularly hear how much the flowers brighten up their birthdays,” said Christina Lefler, helpline supervisor. “Sadly, sometimes the delivery person may be the only person they see that day – in much the same way that sometimes 2-1-1 specialists are the only people they talk to.”
The Sunshine Service provides a regular telephone call to the elderly or people with disabilities who live alone, are physically or socially isolated or who otherwise benefit from routine reassurance calls.
Carousel Florist has four locations in Brevard, according to manager Wayne Allen. They are across U.S. 1 from Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge and also in Cocoa Beach, Merritt Island and Titusville.
Owners are Marilyn Foster and John Braxton.
Libby Donoghue, 2-1-1 Brevard executive director, offered her appreciation for Carousel Florist’s generosity.
“What they do means so much to the Sunshine Service,” she said. “They really do make special deliveries.”
